The Ballarat Cathedral Branch of the Catholic Women’s League Victoria Wagga Wagga (CWLVWW) invites members and friends on Thursday, 6 July, to a day of prayer and reflection to mark the Memorial of St Maria Goretti who died as a Martyr.
The relic of Saint Maria Goretti will be in the Cathedral for Veneration on:
Thursday 6 July – 11.30am till 12 midday (Holy Mass will be celebrated at 12.05pm followed by a light lunch). Friday 7 July – after the 12.05 Mass; and Saturday 8 July – from 9.30am until the 10am MassSt Maria is a model of forgiveness and healing for the Ballarat Diocese. We ask St. Maria’s intercession to help promote the due respect and dignity owed to every human person created in the image of God.
In 2009 the CWLVWW was blessed with a gift of Saint Maria Goretti first class relic. This gift came via Mrs Gillian Badcock in Kent and the involvement of our Ballarat delegate to the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations (WUCWO). At the time, the two women proposed to the Holy See Saint Maria Goretti as a patroness of the protection of children – and for all those who have been abused or have suffered sexual exploitation – in such practices as human trafficking. The Saint Maria Goretti relic is now displayed at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ballarat. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 12.05pm followed by a light lunch in the Mary Glowrey Room. There will be a short presentation on Saint Maria by Anna Krohn AM. Michael Taffe (former Diocesan Archivist) will also give a short presentation of Dr. Sr Mary Glowrey, Servant of God. Afternoon tea will follow. For catering purposes, please register your attendance by contacting us on cwlvicww@gmail.com
